what happened to the steeds....

Posted by tammybaergen, Feb 27 2008, 11:23 PM

I was a trainer back in the later 1980's. Perhaps my favorite employer was the Russian Depot farm in New York where I started Aboukir, Sandor, and others under saddle as well as had a productive year showing Paluba in hand. I was injured later, and as a result now live in a successful second career.

Recently, My 13yr old daughter has presented with my genes for being a horse woman, and I just purchased her first purebred gelding.

I looked today and found some pictures of Aboukir (I still have the professional shots taken with me at the lead) that made me wonder where these wonderful Russian bred arabians are today.

I wonder what happened to Sal & Russian Depot, I would love to learn hwere they are now....

Hi Tammy,
Regarding the horses you were asking about:

Aboukir: Abdullah x Pandora. He was born in 1983, but died as a five year old in 1988. He left behind 13 progeny.

Sandor NSB: Abdullah x Sinibra, 1981 chestnut, last recorded owner is a Robert Searles (since '89) of Canada.

Paluba, 1973 grey mare; deceased as of 2/1990. She left behind eight progeny, the most noted of which was RD Five Star. He was never a huge super star, but his owners promoted the heck out of him.

Hope this info helps.
