Lisa has lived in Spain since 1960 as a 21 year old, spent 11 years in the states (1982-1993) and moved back to Spain in June 1993. As the Yeguada Saltamontes she exported some 50 odd Arabians to the states, with sales, leases, and her own breeding stock; carried a breeding program there under the name of SZED in New Mexico, Indiana and Florida ending up with some 80+ head, one of the largest straight Spanish programs at that time. As a Spanish breeder/owner Lisa is proud to say that her program still holds the record for wins on the regional and national level in the USA. A firm advocate of form to function, Lisa feels she was blessed with a good eye, an insatiable thirst for more knowledge on the Spanish Arabian, dedicated trainers, and a good sense of timing. An active rider all her life with formal instruction in Margaret Cable Self's Military Academy and Dressage and Jumping with Hector Carmona, Lisa retired from horse breeding in 2005. She continues to promote the Spanish Arabian with articles and on-line discussion groups.
For the last ten years Lisa has been collecting information on the relatively little known disease called CEREBELLAR ABIOTROPHY, resulting in becoming the pedigree researcher for the Genetics Institute of the University Of Bern , Switzerland which is currantly researching this neurological condition ( Dr. Vinzenz Gerber and Dr. Tosso Leeb) and has been instrumental in a collaboration between the Swiss and the Univesity of California at Davis which is also studying this condition under the direction of Dr. Cecilia Penedo.
Any further information on possibly affected horses would be most appreciated. Please send either an email or a Personal Message.
