I was raised on the "old" bloodlines, but I want to learn more about them. Where did you learn more? I attended Cal Poly - Ponoma, but I never used the wonderful resources there. I have access to datasource, but what other resources can I use?

Many of you are so knowledgeable and some of you can come up with strain percentages, how is that done? I'd appreciate a leg up on bloodline research - Thanks.

Hello Kelly - I know a wonderful & very intelligent person that knows bloodlines inside & out. She lives in Fair Oaks, CA. I am going certain she will not mind you contacting her via e-mail for her expertise. Her name is Gari Dill-Marlow; her e-mail is gariann@msn.com. She has traveled the world, spending time with many infamous breeders and she has written many, many articles on bloodlines and continues to do research. I am sure she will be happy to share her knowledge with you.

Kelly, Gari is excellent (you should talk to her).

I also purchased as many books as I could on the strains or bloodlines that I liked and read, read and read, talked to other breeders and visited ranches.

Also, another great source is old Arabian Horse World mags, back in the early days they actually showed the horse's pedigree in most ads.

The Al khamsa books are a valuable resourse for me, plus a few data bases like Korona and some others.I'm pretty snappy with SE pedigrees so if anyone has questions I'd be glad to answer those.Arlene Magid will also do pedigree reseach for you, I think you could try googling Eva Dano.I use Data source to trace a pedigree as far back as it will let me. Books, books and more books!

I personally just channel ancient sheikhs, czars and Polish princes to get my info on bloodlines. My next seance for pedigree research will be on the fifth twelfthday of the leventy-leventh month of third moon of Aquarius' retrograde suns under the cusp of an eclipsed sunbeam. Please do join us, Ahmed, Konstantin, Tomek, and Abou Damir, we all hang/chill at the Polish Camel on Melbourne Street. Will be glad to look up ANYTHING you wish to know, sure we can find SOME kinda answer - might not be to your specific question, but we will tell ya SOMETHIN, k?

Peter Mileo - he knows a lot too ! Plus you can just post a horse's name someone will have know that horse or about the breeding . If you go to the all breed pedigree site and buy a subsciption for one month you can use their tools that aren't offered when you just look at the free part . I think it's only $9.99 for a month and you can use it as much as you want . It does all kinds of fun stuff .

We used to have all those old AHW magazines from the 70's, but I think they "disappeared" after one too many moves...

One of my pet peeves in stallion ads is not including the horse’s lineage. I just got back into horses in 2003 after a 15 year hiatus and had no idea who the current stallions were (*Marwan who?), so the first thing I did was pick up AHW. And seeing ads without bloodlines was frustrating for me and I think it’s very presumptuous on the owner’s part. All I need to see is sire and dam that is not going to ruin your artsy ad.

Thanks everyone for the great response.
