Anyone looking for riding partners or wanting to visit in or around the Shawnee give us an email. My daughter and I would love some company on the trails. We fly past the AQHA's and the gaited people wont ride with us because "thier gaited horses would pick up a trot rather then gait from watching our horses."

sorry i'm not closer.

i never had a problem with riding with gaited horses picking up the trot, but i have had my mares pick up a gait and singlefoot especially when riding with Paso's.

in natrc most gaited horse riders teach their horses to trot also. they feel it is easier for non-gaited 'vets' to judge lameness for one. and sometimes use it in developing condition in the horse and to vary gaits.

i only use the singlefoot in my mares to play with and condition but never in competition.

Hi smw.horses, welcome to the forum.

I wish I was closer, but I am way.....south! Georgia

Would love to hear a little about you and your horses. How long have you been
doing the rides and how did you get started?

Thanks for the replays!
I use to ride hard in UMCERA before there was any limited distance rides. I have been out of it with just a few CMO rides for fun for years. My daughter was introduced to the sport by friends. Her first distance ride ever was an international qualifying ride in Florida. She was on a horse that was also on its first 50. So now she is hooked!
Lots of miles of trails here to condition on. I am hoping to do a ride yet this year but am really aiming for next year. With a divorce, a 450 mile move and surgery things did not go well this year.

We used to go up to ride in the Shawnee forest, but I haven't been up there in years. It is beautiful country though! There are bound to be other endurance riders in the area- too much of the right type of trails for there not to be!

I tend to sponsor a lot of Jrs myself - they do get hooked, and provide entertainment on the trail and on the road trips- makes for fun camping!
