I took Kismet to our first show together in June and discovered that HP and SHIH is where her talents are. She took 1st in her HP class and I have been encouraged to move on to showing at class A shows. I have very little experience in showing so I am nervous about moving on to class A. I will hopefully be working with an Arabian trainer but I will need all the help I can get! Please give me some information on HP and tips and tricks on getting a good HP horse, as well as impressing the judge and getting noticed in the ring. Also if you know what's "in" for the junior HP showing I would love to hear that as well. Thanks! smile.gif

My status

In the JTR classes at higher levels shiny, loud coats are in. At the A and smaller regional shows I see alot of tan/lighter jackets, or dark jackets with loud shirts.

As far as tips, try to be steady, most judges really want that in the JTR classes. Taking lessons, and watching other hunter classes are the best way to learn what you need to know. nothing beats experience wink.gif

And make sure you show in equipment that is good for your horse, not just what's trendy smile.gif

Steady, forward-moving, and I am happy to say that Kimberwickes appear to be on the "way out." Show in a snaffle-type bit if at all possible.

Real quick before I'm back out the door ~ Don't forget to ride your ring! Keep yourself visible and out of trouble, don't "ring around the judges", find a good spot on the rail away from the crowd (big mistake too many youth and ammy's make is getting caught up in a big group of horses) and SMILE! biggrin.gif
