Hey guys,

I am thinking of showing sport horse in the near future and I see this year the Nationals are located in Idaho...does this location rotate? I thought they had been between CA and VA in the past. Where will SHN be in the next 3 years--2009, 2010, and 2011?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, couldn't find a regular SH forum...not so good at navigating this yet!

SHN has rotated since it's inception in'03 in VA, 04 CA, 05, VA, 06 ID, 07 VA, 08 ID and 09 it moves to KY then back to ID in 10 and then to stay in KY for the forseeable future. This can always change but that is how it is for now.

From 2011 on it will be in Kentucky.

That is beacuase the you know whats on the SHN committee have a huge dislike/disdain for the Sport Horse folks on the West Coast.

Even keeping it in Nampa was a huge slap in the face in light of the huge complaints from many about the debacle of Nampa Idaho in 2006(and the lower entries). Many many other sites were offered for 2008 and 2010 with promises of several hundred volunteers who would be able to help out had it been moved.

I highly recccomend supporting your local shows, as well as showing Open. You get much more out of an Open show. Economically it makes more sense as well.

My entries for just ONE HORSE at SHN Idaho would be $1712.00
They are charging $150 per class with an added FIFTY DOLLAR A CLASS OFFICE FEE!!!!!

Oh wait, I have two other horses I would like to enter since I went to the trouble of qualifying them...
Add another $1,500 for hotel, and at least $500 in gas, then there are meals etc......
Wonder what that kind of investment really gets me other then really poor.

I think if members would show their disdain for AHAs choices with their wallet they would be inclined to listen.

But if the West Coast fails and looses money-they will just say "see we never make money on the West Coast so lets just keep it on the East" This will just confirm what they want to do anyway.

Spike, thanks for the info.

BFF, I do understand it is expensive to show at Nationals--no matter what breed, circuit, location, etc. If it cost as much as a local or Regional show we all would be at every Nationals every year!

Now where did my get rich quick scheme go to??? wink.gif

LOL
I can not convince my owners to go out and get better paying jobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sadly-supporting their horse trainer falls way after Kids, Mortgage,Food,Car,Gas..........

I would say at this point none of us will be going to Idaho, I know I have a few more days to decide.

We will continue to support our Regionals.

Let them keep it on the East Coast. The rest of us will just consider it an East Coast Championship. I certainly will not think of it as any kind of National show, not when the majority of the Sport Horse Exhibitors are disenfranchised.

I am surprised that there is so much complaining on the location of SHN and not so much on the YN staying in the west! No matter where we live in this country it is going to be a long way for someone to get there! Even though Tulsa is pretty central in the country, how would you like to live in say, Maine or the Pacific NW? Since I live in the east, obvioulsy I have no complaints on SHN staying in KY but I really feel it would be far more fair to rotate it. Same with USN, CN, and Youth!

True Beth, it would be more fair to rotate all of the Nationals if the show comittees could swing it. It is nice to have SHN in KY next year, I certainly won't mind a 14 hour trip! The trip to NM and Regina is a killer, OK is not so bad compared to those but is a whole day/night of driving. It is hard on the people hauling if they are showing as well, and so hard on the horses. I was told that Canadian Nationals used to be in Toronto. Is that true? Gosh, that would be nice! 5 hours driving and done.

Why support what they want to fail? I'd have to buy a new truck to get to Nampa - then I wouldn't have time to prepare and go to nationals, because I'd have to work two jobs to pay for it and the mortgage. Arab dressage has always been a joke and it doesn't look like things will change anytime soon. I'm looking forward to USDF shows next year when my mare turns five, and is ready to show. Less expensive, more validity to the scores....
