Along with Riding, comes trail riding and later in the season as summer begins, it's CAMPING SEASON... I look forward to this and can hardly wait!!!

I have scoured the internet (Mostly last year) and I couldn't really find much of a list. A Camping and trail riding list for Horses. Plenty for Camping with out horses.

So let's begin our own. I'd love to have this handed out, put on the inside door of someones trailer as a check list.

Trail Riding. Add your items to the list.
Human:

1. HELMET

2. Enough water for a full day of riding. I like to freeze 3 bottles and let them thaw, this gives me ice cold water all day long. I also have a Camelback. it holds 72 ounces of water.

3. Sunscreen

4. Chapstick (Preferably with sunscreen in it)

5. IB Profin, Tylenol, Aleve, Motrin.. A Pain reliever of some sort. You know for those aches and pains. I take some before riding to help relieve the pain in my knees and back.

6. A Human First Aid Kit. I have a small Glove Box Size, with Band Aids in several different sizes. Some antiseptic wipes. A bit of Gauze, some bandage tape.

7. A Folded knife

8. A Bandanna (This is awesome for dunking in the water and tying it around your neck, on your head, is good for a horse emergency as well)

9. Gloves (This is optional, I have some very light weight gloves with a pebble hand grip. It helps save my hands from the reins)

10. Sunglasses. These are very important as well.

11. The Camera.. You can't forget this.. We want to see your trail shots!

12. LUNCH!!

13.Tell someone of your plans - give details of where you are going and when
you expect to return, give directions and possible alternative roads that you may take, provide cell phone numbers, Make sure to keep your phone ON you. No use in having a phone if it's on your horse and it took off!

Trail Riding
Horses:

1) WATER. We have several in our group that brings a cooler of water. (Filled, not bottled) to give the horses after the ride.

2) A Bit of lunch. This could be some grain, some complete feed, a little bit of hay. Again several in our group will give the horses a bit of lunch when we get back, to Munch on while we untack and groom out.

3) An Extra Halter and Lead. You just never know.

4) An Extra Girth

5) An Extra Saddle Pad

6) Horn Bag and Saddle Bags

7) A Leather Hole Punch

8) Saddle. Can't forget that..

9) Bridle and an extra one.

10) Wire ties. Keep these in your Horn Bag. The small wire ties come in SO handy. I have been on rides when someone's lost their leather tie on the bridle, or the screw fell out. I have been on a saddle where the girth fell off because the leather ties came loose.

11) A Horse Emergency Kit.

12) A Hoof Pick

13) An Easy Boot. (Or boot of your choice, never know when you may lose that shoes, or if your barefoot, when you might step on something)

14) Butte. Yes, butte, this should be in your emergency kit. On a ride we had a horse slip and fall to his knees on the way out of his trailer. He was fine but a little butte was given to help ease any pain and inflammation. Don't forget to bring something to administer the butte.

15) A Sponge to tie on the saddle. This can be dunked on water and used to wipe your horse down any time during or even after the ride.

16) Your mounting block. On the trail you can usually find a rock, a log, or even someone else to give you a boost up.

17) I also carry a small bottle of Fly Spray on the ride. Just extra precaution. I give em a good spritz before we go, I also give myself a good spritz as well.

We'll Start a Camping one as well.

A Human Check list we can find easily online by googling it.

Camping
Horse:

1) Bring something to contain your horse. Either a Solar Electric Fence enclosure kit, a high line, or even enough rope to tie to the trailer to allow your horse to get down, remember to leave just enough slack for them to get down, but not enough to get tangled.

2) A light weight Blanket. If your camping high in the mountains it can still get pretty chilly.

3) Bring enough water, or some buckets so you can get water from another source if your not camping by a water source.

4) Double Check where you are going, Some places require you to bring Certified Weed Free Feed. Some places also require you feed weed free for a week before you go.

5) Bring food, hay, grain, complete feed and bring enough for a few days to a week extra feed, just in case.

6) Extra Tack. Bridles, Girths, halters, leads, Stirrups, even an extra saddle.

7) Horse Emergency Kit

8) Pitch Fork. (For cleaning up your camp site) ((Thanks Dolly for this addition))
