Update: Remember the foal from the Enumclaw yard?

You may remember this shocking picture and entry on the blog. I can talk about the situation a bit more now. These horses were seized by Snohomish County and were being "boarded" (OK, what-######ing-ever) at the auction yard. When people saw them during an auction, people (understandably) freaked. They came from a typical Krazy Kolor Breeder, Jean Elledge, who was producing lots of gold and cremello Saddlebred and NSH horses and, you know, not feeding them. Like, a dead horse was lying in view of her house and she somehow, lalala, managed to go about her daily business and not be concerned about that. Here's my original blog about her.

Most of them landed in the care of Save a Forgotten Equine and most were successfully rehabbed. The County is now offering them up for placement with any qualifying 501©(3) but if you are interested in adopting outright, you can do so through SAFE.

The amazing thing here is the quality. Several of these horses are straight Egyptian/Al Khamsa Arabians. I have to laugh because when I saw them, my reaction was "Wow, that chestnut filly is REALLY good quality" and I was right. She is. I gotta be honest, the Saddlebreds pretty much looked like inbred colored yaks to me. (They do look better now that they have had some actual food and care.) The Arabian filly...I just went, wow, what are you doing here?

Anyway, they do need homes and if you're a fan of Egyptian Arabians, this is just a fabulous opportunity to get a horse for a fraction of its value.

Info and pictures

#1 horse is O Bahira Majidaa AHA 597511. Granddaughter of Nabiel and The Mistril.

Her foal is sired by Wajiih El Nefous, a grandson of Thee Desperado. Her foal is REALLY nice. I have seen this filly in person and she is a little superstar with a ton of show potential. Her dam was not as emaciated as some of the others and this filly does not appear to be stunted or harmed at all...I am sure she will be just fine. She does have a hernia that needs to be fixed.

#2 horse is La Zhara AHR 481748. Granddaughter of *Ibn Moniet el Nefous and Abenhetep. She is the dam of Ella, the filly who was down in the auction yard.

I am sorry to say that while Ella survived several months after the day at the auction, and did gain weight and look much better (pictured left), the internal parasite damage was too great and her body failed. I just learned about this myself; I'd seen her a few months ago and she looked great so I had no idea she didn't make it. I am sad to hear it, but glad she received good care for the few months she did have.

This is a good reminder to all about how important early deworming is. Here is a good schedule online of when to deworm your foal and what to use. As I learned last year, orphans may need more frequent deworming! Ask your vet.

Yes, Elledge is being prosecuted. But she's a crazy old bat and I'm sure one of our idiot Left Coast judges will feel sorry for her and give her a slap on the wrist. I, of course, want to send her to that judge who put the guy on a piece of bread and a cup of tea daily so he could see what starvation felt like! (Hey, is it too late to nominate that guy for President? I'm not thrilled with either of our existing choices...)

OMG... I had talked to that woman years ago, she wanted to lease my black stallion.... Thank thank thank thank GOD... that I didn't agree... You know, if you had talked to her, she seemed nice- I would've NEVER guessed. WOW, and at the time she wanted to lease Shaliiq she told me she was getting into dilutes.

Sheesh, it is a shame that SAFE has a no breeding policy, otherwise I would be interested in one of the ASB mares, however I refuse to buy a horse with restrictions on it. I hope they get a home with people that don't care.

Yeah, the Egyptians she had had excellent bloodlines, I was actually going to trade the lease for a Moniet El Sharaf daughter she had owned. Small world.

Those particular Egyptian Arabian horses featured on FHOTD today along with several other Arabian horses are not listed on SAFE's website: < www.safehorses.org >.

Here is the specific website address for Washington State, Snohomish County horse adoption for information and pictures about these purebred Arabian horses:

#1a Mare is O Bahira Majidaa AHR 597511 (~5-7 years old)
#1b Filly from above mare is sired by Wajiih El Nefous (~4 months old)
#2 Mare is La Ahara AHR 481748 (~16 years old)
#3 Mare has no pedigree information listed (~2-3 years old)
#9 Stud Colt has no pedigree information listed (~2-3 years old)
#11 Gelding has no pedigree information listed (~15 years old)
#12 Mare has no pedigree information listed (~12 years old)

I would worry less about any non-breeding clause in any adoption form and concentrate more on getting these horses safely to new concerned owners.

What a waste though...

O Bahira Majidaa is a RARE Abeyyan Um Jurrays mare... a treasure that shouldn't fall into the hands of a rescue to place a "no breeding" clause on. They don't even know what they have I'll bet you.

I agree that the horses need homes, but any good loving home should be good enough for rescues. If I ran a rescue, I would place the horses in homes that would love and care for them, regardless of breeding or not- so that I could get on to rescuing MORE horses in need. I might sell my grade horses with a no breeding clause, but good registered stock, no.

Geld the colts and Stallions that is fine, but nice quality Egyptians with precious bloodlines is a terrible waste. The whole situation is sad sad sad.

These horses are not available to the general public. The county has given permission for the horses to be placed with any recognized 501 charity/horse rescue and those rescues will then turn and place the horses. So, depending on what rescue the horses go to, there may well be a no breeding clause involved.

They are not listed on the SAFE website, but they are now listed on the SAFE message board (there is a link on the website). To adopt these horses via SAFE you will have to follow their usual adoption guidelines. I will say that out of all the rescues over here, SAFE is one of the best.

This case has been going on for months. I talked with the AC Officer involved with the seizure of all the horses, these arabians and the other saddlebreds that SAFE and others got and immediately listed. Snohomish county does things a bit differently than other counties. They refused to allow any publicity of any kind on the horses that they seized. They have found that in the past if 'word' gets out into the community they have a much harder time prosecuting than if things are kept mum. Some people have gotten very upset that no word was put out to the public about these horses and feel that it will cause them to not get adopted out very quickly. There IS a very good reason for this and people really need to understand that sometimes it's best not to let the media and public get involved.

I really hope all the horses get good homes. The market is really bad over here and not many horses are moving from any place and sadly that includes from the rescues.
