I have been a member here for a while but finally wanted to post what my goals/plans and heart's work with Arabians is all about.

Once I get our website more hashed out (and trust me it will not be fancy just very informative) I will post it.

Well, it started as a child when I used to be so in love with Arabian horses I would literally (and I am not exaggerating) walk seven miles just to see one. I had fallen in love with the breed at around (and just guessing) 7 to 10 years of age with two seperate incidents of Arabian horses stealing my horse.
One was an Ice Storm daughter named Iced Elegance (aka Ellie) and the other a beautiful bay mare named Rastah (spelling could be slightly off)
That turned into my obsession.......
I had a paper route in WI in freezing snow and sleet just to pay the 30.00/month board and payment on my first half Arabian who was named Sweet Troubador. I was about 14'ish. (Hudson, WI). In Hudson I went to school with the daughter of the owners of Don Ibn Bask (believe her name was Ginger) and she used to bring pictures in which I of course would admire and around the area were many Gazon horses which I loved to play with, also some friends had a Fadjur son who I found really beautiful and so wild and spirited!!

After Sweet Troubador my family bought me a gelding named Garhava's Mesabi in MN when I visited them for a summer and when I left and came back to San Diego I worked off and on at Halcyon Arabians for Janene Hanson and enjoyed the company of a Ferdine son (we never did purchase him though, I was working it off but I was only around 15 and just could not handle the hard work)named Halcyon Nimbus. Then I connected with Bonnie Kibbee (Yankee Domino) and she arranged a sale between myself and some wonderful people for a gelding who was to become my first 'true' horse as he was all mine and I was working at a hot dog stand to pay him off (which I did!!). He was a tiny gorgeous little gelding.

I used to draw pictures of Arabian horse heads all over my homework. I was a horse nut, I drank. slept, breathed and ate arabian horses. I remember going through the magazines and dreaming and dreaming....images of Khemosabi, Fadjur, Tazraff and many others galloped through my dreams from those magazines.

FINALLY if we fast forward to NOW..........

Not long ago I got back into the breed after a hiatus due to my divorce and am so happy to be back and really am able to do it this time without as much worry or concern as in the past.

I have been gathering together a small herd of beautiful arabians and plan to breed them. I have focused more on my own stallions than breeding out just for now as I have older mares and I would like to get them all in foal at my own place and maybe on rebreeds I might try to breed out to one or two outside guys.
I have not been hearing great stories on AI so I feel happy to have my own wonderful and typey boys to breed.

Why do I have older mares? I don't know, it just has happened like that. I did not intend to get them, but Pete McNeil would not sell me a filly or a younger mare at first so I had to take a couple older mares then once he got to know me he sold me Bella and Dantastik but at first really nothing was for sale!!
Then I realized how much I loved these older gals and then came Danny Rosezon and now Khelarra.
I have 2 more mares on the way most likely (I have things signed just waiting on confirmation) then I am done for quite a while, in fact for a long while.
That will be my foundation herd, those that get in foal will give me great gifts, those that don't we love all the same and I do believe that one day I will have younger mares too (right now only one).

So what do I want to breed for?

Well to put it plainly

TYPE, TYPE and more TYPE but with attention to structure and working horses. Work can be cow horse, park horse or driving, it can be trail blazer, dressage or it can be kids best friend...what I want is that versatile old style arabian that can do a little of this or a little of that and do it with a great attitude.
I want sweet in your pocket best friend type arabians that love people. So with that in mind and due to my love of Pete McNeils horses I have gathered 'mostly' Gainey breeding with just the one Khemo daughter who may or may not get in foal anyway , she is really for my daughter or husband to enjoy and ride. I want horses that make me proud to own them not just by their gorgeous looks but by their wonderful minds.

I plan to breed a few foals a year and hopefully to sell a couple of those, maybe retain one filly a year. I would like to help others get into the breed and in that vein I will find owners for my foals who plan to 'use' them, I don't care so much about showing as I do just active, involved best friend owners.

In any case I want to preserve type and versatility at the forefront of my program and as I get interested in this or that (for instance saddle seat) perhaps breed in that direction a little bit. I do not plan to breed for halter or action but for nice 'doing' horses.

So that is my beginning story and I will post more and edit as I see fit!

(Our name came from our mare Katie Rose who we lost but is forever in our hearts and frolicks at the ranch in our dreams)

Thank you for reading if you got this far.

I'm glad you are finally getting your dream ranch. My love of the Arabian horse started with watching the Black Stallion as a child. It's amazing to me what a true classic it is. My sister bought it for my nephew who is 2 and all he can say is Black HHorse. He than jumps on his hobby horse and rides like the wind. I told my sister once the love of the Arabian horse has hit you there's know going back. Even at a year old he would get a big smile on his face when I would put him on my mare's back. I also like the old type Arabian, but I guess that is why I love fell in love with the Arabian. They looked different than other breed's and are in your pocket all the time. The Arabian will be your best friend for life if you let it. That's what I want. In the tent personality and diversity. Thank's for reminding me why I love the Arabian breed. I can put it in two words BEST FRIEND! futile.gif

Thanks for commenting Bekah, I'm with you, they are so wonderful and sweet. I think that is one reason I have some older ones even though I know most likely they won't get in foal or anything, I just think they deserve the best!! Thanks for your great comment.

Sounds like a great plan i loved reading your story and journey of how everything progressed to get to where you are now - here and today!!! So here is the the future!

Also i myself breed and have a huge emphasis on the versatille arabian - an arab CAN go from a show horse to a family horse and then back. There truly is no other breed like an Arabian!!!

Congrats! I am so glad you are finally living your dream. I agree with Bekah. The Black Stallion can/does spark the love for the Arabian breed. I have loved them for as long as I can remember. I am now just starting to get into Arab breeding myself. I have an opportunity to co-own two Gainey arab mares and there foals. I have a half arab bred for endurance and a black arab mare that has khemosabi, aladdin, and double bask. I will hopefully be breeding her next year along with the Gainey arabs. Good luck to you and hope everything goes well! bigemo_harabe_net-117.gif

Thanks you guys for reading it! I know its long but there is no way to summarize that much life in a sentence lol.

Here is a new bit......(long again but again, just sharing where my breeding program is going....towards old world type, I just adore it)

I went today to pick up Dantastik and we have to try again in a few days when Nathan has some more time to work with him on trailering. Dantastik has never really been worked with. In fact when I got him his feet had not been done in 3 years....well amazingly the reason why is his feet only had just recently went off shape......he wore them perfectly in his pasture that 3 years and only the last 6 months or so it started to become apparent he needed a trim, now I keep him done every 8 weeks of course but before he was doing just fine, but maybe a little much heel.

I write this here in this thread as when I was watching Nathan loading Dan into the trailer (which he never quite fully went into!!) and Pete sat on his golf cart and I stood watching......

Pete said in a real low voice "That is a beautiful horse.....". And I felt really proud because I love Petes horses so much and it meant a lot to me for Pete to sell me this colt when I know he was not sure if he wanted to use him himself or not yet. He usually waits quite a long time before deciding, sometimes he never decides. I also know that Margaret Haverstock leased his daddy for a time and that she values that 'look' and I of course just loved Dreamazon!!

I looked at Dantastik today and he reminded me of what I love in an Arabian horse.....above all else. TYPE. He is just so extremely darn typey I can barely stand it. He has gotten better in the last month for sure, these horses mature super slowly and I am convinced that is why Lacinda looks only about 12. She probably only just matured at like age 15!! He is small of course, I would not expect this horse to be anything but fairly small because he is built like that. He is extremely smooth and for such a shrimp he is certainly rather stretchy (not as much as todays horses though) His neck sometimes looks REALLY long and other times a bit too cresty, he needs to go on a different type of food . The good thing is his throat latch is very clean.

I can not wait to get a good photographer out one day and capture what it is I love about these horses as it is not easy to capture on film.

But while I realize that not everyone wants old style arabians, I just so love that old look, it is probably sentimental from my childhood.

I admire the newer blood too, believe me, some of them knock my socks off too, in fact some of them on this website do!!! I have even caught myself admiring Strike daughters lately.....scary!!

I just felt today like I was watching a carousel horse not a real horse and I am not even sure that is a compliment lol...but I loved it smile.gif It is just what my eye goes to. I always have liked this type even at the shows. They never won either!! Even when they were the best most correct AND typey horse in the ring the flavor of the month always won.

Anyway, thats where its at.......Dantastik is ALMOST home.......now to get him in good shape!!! He is in pasture condition and looks great but I want to see what he 'really' looks like.
