Karin A. McMurtrie has owned and bred Arabian horses for 25 years. For much of that quarter century, her beloved horses were a respite from a challenging career in law enforcement and forensics. Seeing the worst of human nature makes one especially appreciate the heart and spirit and beauty of Arabians, brave companions of humans for millennia.

I had the wonderful luck to be given a collection of Arabian horse magazines that spans from the 1960's to 2004. As I look through them, I see wonderful
English Pleasure and Park horses of the past that I sure wish were around today for breeding. I am always on the lookout for direct descendants of these horses or for people who may have known them, or known about them, that can provide more insightful information than magazine articles or ads can provide.

I'd also like to know, who are your favorites of the past, and why?

I'll start....

High Hopes. When I see his ads of him doing Formal Driving, I'm so impressed by the way he carries himself and the extension of his foreleg (they always show him with one foreleg up and extended way out).

I have many more favorites but that's one of the top ones for me smile.gif

I know this isn't really old old. But I always liked Napitok.

There are a lot of the old horses I like. So kind of hard to choose just one however I'll stick with the first. smile.gif

Orans Adagio was my personal favorite Purebred - He was just amazing. Countess Vanessa was my favorite Half Arabian. Both traced to Oran, I never knew that until I looked them up today. I had the pleasure of seeing them both compete and it is something I will never forget.

I saw a picture of Aulrab yesterday, and while I can't remember if he showed EP or Park.. That's what I thought when I saw the picture. He took my breath away. I also like the Oran horses, Viva Von Crabbet in particular. While it's not a discipline I'll probably ever ride, it's fun to look at them smile.gif

Robin, I completely agree! Love him, love him, love him!!! I am blessed to have a daughter of his who is magnificent! Unfortunately I am dispersing my herd so she is posted on the Horses For Sale section under Morales Arabians. Very reasonably priced too. She is an incredible mover like her sire. He is my ultimate dream horse smile.gif

Actually, she's grey. Her dam is by *Gwar, a Comet son, and she is light grey with the big dark eyes that a lot of Comet descendants have. But she's got her sire's motion and she passes it on to her foals.

One of my favorite EP horses RL Rah Fire - lots of her blood around through her grandson IXL Noble Express . She was just a pretty correct horse who used both her front and back ends and had that lovely loose shoulder .
