I knew of a friend of a friend who had a purebred blue eyed colt several years ago by a very big named halter stallion. She chose not to register him and gave him away, just because, I'm sure, she figured he wouldn't be very marketable and cut your losses. Im not sure if she bought the mare in foal, or bred to him herself.... but I heard thru that that both parents must carry the gene in order for that to show up. Probably not something the stallion owner wanted out, anyway. LOL.
Then again, a half Paint will often get the blue eyes, and I can't imagine that there are that many purebreds with that gene, but who knows... and Jettana, I think she posts here, had that cool looking colt with the blue eyes, but I think he was a half arab/saddlebred??? not sure.
my boy is a 1/2 arab saddlebred whose dam has one blue eye ,I am not sure of the hereditary factors as the mare has had 5 foals and only one had the high white and 2 partial blue eyes.
His dam line is known to produce these features along with a big trot.
