I asked this question over on "The Dark Side" and have gotten no response. I know that the idea behind sport horse is to be judged as a hunter, or dressage horse or whatever, not as an 'Arab hunter' or 'Arab dressage horse'. So, my question is, why are the purebred and half arabs separated? It seems to me this kinda goes against the whole concept of judging for function. Is it an AHA requirement? Is it just because that's the way it's done?

Probably the same as all the other AHA shows. They have PB and HA classes. Anybody else know???

But in MR shows, Arab type is considered at least to some extent under saddle and definitely in halter (in hand) classes. Didn't think it was supposed to count in sport horse. Maybe I'm just under the wrong impression.

arab type is part of the judging requirements for sport horse in hand and at AHA shows, HA and PB are considered two breeds and in order to earn Legion points, the classes that are combined don't count

OK, that makes sense. Thanks for the answer.
