It's been over year since Sasha had her teeth done.
How often should a horse be floated or such (meaning the procedure shown below of my mare) and at what age should one get a horse's teeth checked?
We had two Californians come last year and used these gizmos. One boarder said that her horse couldn't eat for 6 months after being "worked on" by one of the two "equine dentists."
Cost for this type of treatment? $230 per horse in Hawaii.
We found out that our board certified vet did training a couple of years back to do basic stuff...what could this mean? I will ask him but I thought I'd post the question here. It sounds like he doesn't do all the stuff that this guy did to my mare. Is this the normal dental checkup or can it be more simple, meaning no grinding and such? This guy told me Sasha had an "overbite" at least I think that's what I heard and he said he would "fix' it and he mumbled on that it was caused by eating CARROTS! I thought this was hokey........! Sasha's 5 yo. My boy eats carrots. Is he doomed for an overbite too?
I took pics of the treatment and this is what my mare endured, not to mention two sedatives at $40 a pop! Was not pleased at the "bedside" manner of this guy as he quickly did the job and cared less whether my mare was okay because she was still groggy. Well, he did say "make sure you don't let her graze because she can choke to death"! Scared the bejeezers out of me.
I don't relish vaccinations nor tranqs on horses...but then I digress....
