I've finally found BOSS and I just give it to both without the paprika (none here in HI) nor the oil.
How effective do you think this is? Both Shah and his mama Sasha love the seeds. I just give it to them like a snack.
I remember that diet and health come first and then its curry, curry and rinse and curry to keep the black. Mention was made of Black as Knight and other products that either do or do not work. What have you experienced?
Do you feed BOSS and such to enhance/keep the black or does your horse stay black all the time?
Does it change with the winter coat with a brownish tinge or not?
I do not feed anything for coat color for my black horses.
Obviously my indoor horses stay black all the time.
However, I have a few that just do not burn. Although the hair will die a bit and get a brownish tint at the end right before they shed their coats seasonally.
I live in So Cal by the way.
Now one of my clients bought a gelding from me. He never had fade issues.....Now he does. The worst being is that she body shaves him in the winter, and on warm days he is outside.......then in summer, I think his sheet makes him sweat and he gets sweat stains. He never had brown on him before. Now he is like a black and brown pinto at times.

He is 16 years old.
The worst is my filly born in late July. So she has gone through the mouth eaten stage pretty much, except her face is probably not going to shed out....so she has these lovely brown circles around her eyes from her sunburnt/dead foal coat. Blech.
I think the best you can do is be vigillant with hosing the sweat off of them.
It just is what it is. Some fade and some do not. In my opinion.
