Hi all, I'm new here (as I've mentioned three times!) bigemo_harabe_net-109.gif and I'm just starting with breeding. I have a gorgeous 2 year old rose grey Arabian Stallion and I'd like someone to help me figure out the best way to market his pedigree.

He has this wonderful Tersk (Russian) lineage on both sides, especially the top (*Ofir, *Mammona, *Witraz, *Arax, *Nomeklatura, *Nabeg, *Metropolia and the amazing *Menes.- All these horses are exceptional. He's the son of Premise EF and Grandson of Menes.)

On the bottom it's Comet, Dar, Witraz. He is 3 generations from Bask on his sires side and 4 on the dams. So that's Bask on Both sides bigemo_harabe_net-108.gif Which to be honest is the least impressive thing going on here not that I want to minimize Bask!

I love the Tersk Arabians and he moves just like them. He is a dream. He would make an amazing Sporthorse for here in the US or main event, Also I can see dressage, performance horse, endurance and eventing in his movements. This guy literally floats. Prancey, typey and rose grey (in two years he should be "white".)

Here is his pedigree from anyone who wants to take a closer look http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/call+me+cosmo (this is his barn name. I'm not using his registered name yet publically, I want to get all my ducks (ducts?) in a row.)

Can someone with real knowledge of pedigree tell me what they would call him? A Tersk Arabian? A Russian-Polish Arabian? A Polish Arabian? And given that I live in Georgia, what would you consider as the best choice to cross him with? I see QH for WP, TB for Main Event and Sporthorse, Warmblood for serious eventing, endurance and maybe even hunter/jumper.

I'm starting this thread here because I think this is where it belongs but if nobody here can help or I'm in the wrong thread maybe someone can guide me? Anyway, I really could use some advice here. I want to take him as far as he can go. I havent started showing him yet since I've only had him for 3 months but I'm getting a real sense of what he can do- and he loves to perform! Halter to start, once under saddle I'll bet he'll love Dressage. I also need a good trainer if anyone can recommend someone who works with stallions like this with an eye toward halter, futurities and showmanship. I'll probably break him to saddle (English.)
Thank so much for any advice you can give. And think big!

Anne

Just looking at his pedigree fast your stallion also has some Spanish blood through AN MALIK and some Egyptian Moniet El Nefous. As far a trying to nail down any breeding source or country of origan there isn't really any I'd call him. I'd start by getting some really great pictures of your guy. Get him out to be seen either at community shows or AHA.I'm not sure about trainer in Georgia. I live in WI and have horses in TN .

Your stallion's sire line is Bairactar or. ar. and his dam line is Rodania. Bairactar or.ar. sire line is the same as well known Marscha's Parkinson beloved stallion *Wojslaw and stallion *Emanor: USA, Canada and Mexico champion stallion 1999.
Stallion Bairactar or.ar. was grey as your stallion is and was imported in 1817 to Weil from the desert by Emir Rzewuski. Five generations of stallions from this sire line lived in Weil, and the sixth generation stallion Amurath II started this line in Poland.
This sire line is considered to be saqlavi but crosses well with saqlavi and kuhailan mares.

That's not a lot of knowledge but I'm also starting in breeding.

I would have to agree with this, except I'm in California! Good luck with your boy. Do you have any photos to share?

Not a lot of knowledge? I"d say "wow". I am totally impressed. I'm not quite sure what it all means but I'm very impressed. It the saglavi line considered the "oriental" looking line? And how do I market him. To me his lineage looks Russian on the Sires side......through Mammona to Menes to Premise. Same on the Dams side, only less so. More Polish and on both sides there is
Bask (polish.) If you have to boil it all down what would you call him?

Thanks again Tom, your knowledge is great.

Thanks you also Marketing! I appreciate your help also- a lot!

Well, I'd just call him an Arabian. He's a mix of Polish, Russian, Spanish, and Egyptian....lots of good bloodlines in there. I'll bet he's beautiful, can't wait to see pics.

Lisa, thank you, You should know! Look at your guys/gals, they are gorgeous! I can;t wait to post pictures but since he's grey he's mostly orange right now. The boy loves to roll around in the red Georgia clay! futile.gif So I have to shoot fast, ask questions later. blush.gif

I really want to market him as a Tersk Arabian w/ Bask on both sides. I love Tersk! And I love this horse. Heck I love all Arabs, they are such a remarkable breed.

Thank you so much for your comments. Actually I just looked at your name. Is that your Farm? Ofir was one of the great studs at Tersk. I love Ofir! lol. They are so darn prancy and typey. I could watch them all day. (Cosmo has Ofir on both sides, as I'm sure you observed.) wub.gif Your horses are gorgeous, cant wait to look them up when I have more time!
Thanks again,

Anne

Anyone else please feel free to comment.

His dam is showing no registered foals.. is he not registered yet? That would be the first step and will be necessary before he is shown in anything other than open shows. He's not a Tersk Arabian however lol he's a mix of many different bloodlines as has been stated.

As far as trainers, there are several good ones in Georgia. Futurities would be out as he would have had to have been nominated before he was even foaled to be eligible for those.. and without being registered it's a safe bet he wasn't. Showmanship is for juniors (18 and under) but I've seen adult showmanship classes in some of the ACS shows.

Good luck with him.. can't wait to see pictures smile.gif

Hi Anne,

Your boy is 1/2 Polish (both his paternal granddam and maternal grandsire are pure Polish) and 1/4 Russian (through Menes). The other 1/4 looks like a mixture of Spanish, Egyptian, Crabbet, etc (damline is Crabbet). I don't think it would be wrong to market him as primarily Polish/Russian bred, as those are the two dominating influences in his pedigree (although there are others). You will see some of the same names in both Russian and Polish breeding (eg. Ofir) as Tersk acquired some of their foundation horses from Poland, and throughout the years the two countries traded/stole/bought horses from each other more than once.

Based on his pedigree I can see why he could make a great sporthorse!

The sireline through Nabeg is my personal favourite, he was known for strong hips, overall structure and attractive heads with big eyes. Nabeg sons have produced very well in both Russian and Polish breeding. Menes was an incredible sire, although I'd say his breeding (particularly through his sons) was appreciated more in Europe than N. America. There is an old thread over in the Russian forum that discusses Menes a bit.

Glad to see your enthusiasm for the Russian lines! We love them here as well and have a barnfull that will be the basis of our straight Russian breeding program.

Good luck with your boy, it's great to see that you have plans to train and show him, getting him out there will be some of the best promotion you can do!
