Hi everyone, Since I've gotten my rant out on the other thread, I thought I'd better introduce myself...I'm new here but recognize quite a few names that I haven't seen on the other site for some time. My name is Debra Werner, and I live in Alachua, FL. I have one son at University of FL (Go Gators!) who just completed his freshman year (full scholarship), and another son close behind him. My husband is a fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico, and I am a soapmaker, which caters to my creative side while it gives me time to support my kids activities, participate in booster clubs, and volunteer my time.
Since I get so involved (timewise and financially) with my boys, I only have one horse at the moment, a high% Crabbet stallion. I've owned five Arabians (including this one's sire, dam, sibling) and been involved with Arabians since 1980 or so, when I apprenticed at Al-Marah for a time (when Bazy's son Mark had a "Southern" branch, before he moved on to Arabian Nights dinner theatre). I've had horses of different breeds since the early 1970s; grew up riding my Appy mare on the beach in the Florida Keys. Probably can't get away with that anymore!
I love the internet for the way it brings people together to share common interests; the forums and groups that have enriched my interest in the Arabian horse. I may not be the most involved person - don't show, etc - but when the boys are all grown up and out, health permitting, I can get back to my first love (horses). In the meantime, I love hearing about what everyone's doing with their horses, I do a lot of pedigree research, and try to keep up with current events. I feel like so many have contributed their wealth of knowledge and experience, I'm happy to pass that on to educate others about this timeless breed.
Cheers, Deb
