And here's a writeup I did recently for a client on CA HERMOSO (my all time fave western pleasure horse!)

C A HERMOSO+++/ set a new standard for western pleasure performance, and proved himself in the breeding barn as well. His 11 National titles include U.S. Top Ten Stallion and Stallion AOTH, twice U.S. National Champion Western Pleasure, Canadian National Champion Western Pleasure, and Canadian Reserve National Champion Western Pleasure AATR 18-39 at age 18. As a sire, he sired just over 100 purebred get (he was too busy in the show ring to have a full opportunity at stud). Fourteen of these are National winners. C A HERMOSO+++/’s ancestry combines the best of Spanish, Polish and American lines. The U.S. National Champion Mare and Top Ten Western Pleasure winner LA DUQUESA and her full brother, National Champion sire ZORTANN, are both by an imported Spanish stallion out of a GAZORT++ daughter, as is C A HERMOSO+++/’s dam. C A HERMOSO+++/ is also closely related to U.S. Reserve National Champion Training Level Dressage JTR 13/Under SE CELITA+, who is by JDAR BARI BRITA out of a *GG SAMIR daughter, whereas CA HERMOSO+++/ is by a *GG SAMIR son out of a daughter of *BARICH DE WASHOE.

C A HERMOSO+++/ is by the straight Spanish stallion C A ACIERTO, also sire of his full sister, U.S. Top Ten Hunt Pleasure AOTR 18-39 C A TAPATIA (dam of multi-regional western pleasure winner JUST USS). C A ACIERTO is a full brother to C A ASTRO, whose daughter C A SEDOSA is the dam of 11 time National winner C A MEJOR+/ and of regional halter winner SA BANDARA (dam of Canadian Top Ten Futurity Colt and multi-regional western pleasure champion SA PEGASUS). CHALLENDON FLAME is by straight Spanish, twice Region 3 Top 5 Park JDAR BARI BRITA, also a halter champion and a National winner sire. His other important get include National Champion Dressage SE CELITA+ (already mentioned), U.S. Top Ten Futurity Filly C A REGALA, and BARINESSA, dam of Canadian Top Ten Futurity Colt and National Champion sire TRES TY ADAR. JDAR BARI BRITA is by is by western pleasure reserve champion *BARICH DE WASHOE, sire of over 80 champions and 18 National winners including Canadian National Champion Mare SB LA INA, Canadian National Champion Hunter SH BARICHADE, U.S. and Canadian Top Ten Western Pleasure NT LUCERO, U.S. Top Ten Western Pleasure VALLEJO MACHO, etc. 31 *BARICH DE WASHOE get have produced National winners. CHALLENDON FLAME is out of regional halter winner and performance champion OVERLOOK BURGATZA++, also dam of halter champion CHALLENDON BANNER and halter champion CA FUEGO. C A FUEGO has sired U.S. and Canadian Top Ten Hunt Pleasure Junior Horse and Canadian Top Ten Hunt Pleasure AOTR 40 and Over C A ESPADA+/, as well as C A CARMEN (dam of National winner in hunt pleasure C A CORONADO+, already mentioned) and regional halter winner SA BANDARA (dam of Canadian Top Ten Futurity Colt SA PEGASUS). OVERLOOK BURGATZA++ is by U.S. and Canadian Top Ten Stallion and English Pleasure GAZORT++, a sire of National Champion purebred and Half-Arabians. He is pure Polish. OVERLOOK BURGATZA++ is out of the Americanbred mare BUR-VALISSA, who is linebred to SKOWRONEK through his sons *RASEYN and *RAFFLES. She is by U.S. Top Ten Stallion and National winner sire BU-ZAHR out of BUR JADA, dam of Canadian Reserve National Champion Reining AOTR BANTUS FROST.

I would like to emphasize that Priscilla and Bill are still breeding and have prospects for sale from their remarkable program. Below is the 2007 AHW recognition of CA Hermoso; the beautiful portrait is by Darryl Larsen. In 2009 watch for news of a new baby by Justify; on the ground is a very nice colt by Jullyen Jamaal.

Please check the horse Famoso. I don't think that horse is related to CA Hermoso or the Challendon program. There is a purebred 21 yo gelding named CA Famoso, who is NOT the nationals winner, and there is JoEllen Erickson's beautiful stallion HJ Famoso, 2007 US National Top Ten Futurity colt, not shown at 2008 US Nationals, but was an IOWA Gold Star Stallion. He will be shown in Western Pleasure.

If I am wrong, please let me know so I can add him to the Challendon website. Thank you.

Irene, with the greatest of respect-if you use my work on a website you've been paid to do, I would at least expect a credit as a researcher with my name and email mentioned. My name is Arlene Magid, Priscilla used to sit with me at Scottsdale every year. She knows me well. My email is Arabbits@aol.com. You also mis-spelled Life of Riley in your announcement of this year's wins. Precision in research is crucial-I think you missed Famoso because you didn't read the crucial word HALF-ARABIAN in my writeup on Hermoso, and not all of Hermoso's winners were bred by Priscilla, so saying this horse is NOT part of their program puzzles me...

The correct information is as follows:

FAMOSO 3/4 Arabian 2A341298 bay gelding foaled 2000, bred by Loren and Joellen Erickson
His dam is Date With An Angel, a daughter of the Saddlebred Key Command MRF and the Arabian mare Maali.
His National title is 2003 U.S. Top Ten Half-Arabian Hunt Pleasure Futurity.

I hope you will give me credit on the Challendon website for providing this since you couldn't find the horse yourself.

I am a huge fan of the Challendon horses and have been since the 1980s.

This was just an attempt to celebrate the Challendon wins at US Nationals in 2008. The show records were given to me by a client of Priscilla's, we are all just trying to express our admiration for Challendon's program.

I do not do research, I do graphics and photography. Content is signed off before it is given to me. I did not take anything from your article for the Challendon site.

I phoned her to tell her about your nice article - doing YOU the favor. Why not shoot her an email? Or start your own thread?

Nobody is trying to rip you off. JoEllen is a close friend and I am sure Priscilla just forgot.

Sorry, Irene-but if you saw as many uses of your material without attribution as I do, you would ask for attribution too. Had to ask someone to change their website two days ago because they took a big chunk of a writeup I did on *Aladdinn without crediting me (even thought the site it was taken from DID credit me!)

I am sure you are aware of the difficulties protecting intellectual property on the internet. Your banner ad makes it sound as if you provide more than just design, sorry if I misinterpreted that. I don't have time to police things all the time, but when I feel I should get credit for something, I do speak up. I've kept silent for many years...not anymore.

You queried me about a horse I had in my writeup that was not on the Challendon site. I am happy to contribute information, but your post sounded like you doubted my accuracy as you referred to two other purebreds instead of Famoso, who is listed as a Half-Arabian National winner in the writeup.

Priscilla and I go back a long way. She has never bought writing from me and I don't expect people I consider friends to feel obligated to do so. If I contribute something unique, though, I do expect credit-NOT PAYMENT, just credit for finding the information, which apparently no one else had checked. Thank you for calling her. I have emailed her also to make sure she knows about Famoso.

Hope this clarifies why I wasn't "chilled out" in response to your post. Would have been nice if you'd just thanked me for the added info...
