My first Arabian was a pb named Asjah Sahib, he had been hanging out in the pasture for almost 3 years, and thought he was the "pasture stud" even though he was a gelding, LOL. He was a little on the skinny side and had only been green broke before going out to pasture, so we had a lot of work to do to get him back "up to speed" But he remebered very quickly (of COURSE) and we were off to the local shows and trail rides in no time.. I had Sahib for six years, he met up with me in Florida after I'd been here a while (I leased him to a friend in MN in the meantime) and he now is a lesson horse about an hour south of where I live.... he's happy and content packing the kiddos around...

Here's a couple pics....

Oh I love reading stories like this.

My first Arabian was Elkanin. She was a bay 9 yr old mare. She hadn't been ridden in quite a while when we went to go look at her. I was 14 and fearless. After chasing her in circles for a few minutes just to get on and then taking several minutes to get her to stop rearing I passed her "test" and rode her around the pasture without any more problems and took her home for $800. After that first ride she stared at me with a look as if I were her chosen one. She was trick trained before I got her and she could bow, sit, count, rear and lay down.

We did everything together from trail blazing to jumping to racing my friends horses. She was so awesome! We spent 4 glorious years together before I lost her in a tornado. She is survived by by her daughter, three granddaughters and great grandson.

This was my first papered-with-out-a-doubt Arabian

Diakaborr (Kaborr x Miss Diamond)

My mom worked for Mr. Chauncey in the 80's and "Blu" was a cull. You had your choice- a stud w/o papers or a gelding with papers. smile.gif We lost this horse (I was 10yrs old) during my mom's divorce.

This is my 2nd Arab

Cal-O-Baskin (Baskin Robbins x Cal-O-Bration)

My uncle bought him 100 lbs underweight at a kill auction in WI. I assume he was a cull from a BNF there. Still going strong as a trail horse for my best friend's dad!

This is what my love for Arabian horses culminated into

CH Ali Khan (Ali Szar x Karianne IK)

I rode "Comet"s dam for a BNT but then had to go over seas for a while. She was always in my heart and mind so as soon as I got back to the states I called her owner/breeder. She told me the mare was no longer for sale but she had a colt at her side....which I bought straight away. biggrin.gif

This is my daughter and her 1st Arabian

Dreamscape CT (Mohamad Zaphar x Kaysam Leola)

We got her from a puppy-mill type breeding operation. The man breeds for color only. This mare has a lot of trust issues but she and my daughter understand each other.

My first Arabian was a grey SE stallion named Bagdads Zachariah "Zack". He was a pretty cool horse... levelheaded around mares, went English/Western... pretty good on the trails... unless you took him into deep grass (he would freak out in deep grass... not sure if it was a ticklish belly thing or the feeling of grass wrapping around his legs... huh.gif ). You could put anyone on him... Man, the miles and miles of trails we went on smile.gif

I'm not sure if I have any photos of him scanned... I'll have to check.

My 1st papered arabian. I showed him all over the place in the late 70's early 80's. In the open classes of 20+ horses he would always come home with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd. I kept him in a saddlebred barn in exchange for working there.
Now the best part, He is
Newmar's Squire
a nashwan son born in 1973.
He is still healthy and happy living with my parents where he lived for almost 30 years. Still the boss also. :0)
This picture was taken at the grand old age of 35yrs (this summer) He will be 36 in Feb. He has lived the life of a horse without any extra attention besides the Purina Senior.

After almost fifteen years of having half Arabs, my first purebred was LO Enchantress (*Galbor x Miroluba). Tried getting a foal from her, but lost her in a tragic fiasco when she was sent out for breeding. We also purchased the mare Ekstatika (Bajczar x Elektra) at about the same time, so I'll include her - she'd be jealous if I didn't. smile.gif She's the gray.

That is so neat that you still have your first after all these years.

My status

My first arabian was actually my 1st horse.
She was abused and neglected; what a good match for a 8yr old's 1st horse lol. She was 14.2 on a good day and bay. Registered name Bint Matwshi. I sold her quite a few years later to a young girl in 4H and she's still owned/shown by that girl and she is now 26 yrs old I believe.

How awesome is this fellow. I too still have the first purebred that I actually owned. He is just about to turn 23, and boy does he remind me of your grand ole man. I would attach a photo, but am at work, and my computer crashed yesterday, so am using a loaner, so no pictures I can attach, but his pictures are in my gallery. He is a been there done that guy. Did 4-H with my kids, and this past summer with my neice. Great hunting horse, trail horse, and parade horse. He was never registered so never got to show in any breed shows.

Wow! Your guy looks good and gives me hope. My first arabian was also my first horse, Festivity Bey V. My mom got him as a 2 year old when I was 6 months old. I will have to see if I can scan some of the pictures from when he was young later. He and I have done just about everything and have gotten into all sorts of trouble. We are probably responsible for at least half the gray that is now in mom's hair. He even went with me to college and is currently helping me maintain my sanity (or insanity) in graduate school. He will be 28 in February and he is still going strong, I hope he lasts well into his 30s like you guy, FiveWells. Here are pictures of us competing out on the Ram Tap novice level cross country course ~8 years ago. If I can get back in shape, we will go give a beginner novice course a shot next spring.
