While shopping for new Christmas decorations the other day I was struck by the complete lack of any outdoor manger scene displays. Reindeer, snowmen, candy canes, carousels, and even penguins, but no representations of Jesus' birth.
We have an aged, plain white plastic Madonna, baby Jesus, and Joseph that have been patched so many times that they really need to be replaced, and I was unable to find anything other than tiny manger scenes at Lowe's and WalMart. Are major retailers so paranoid about offending the non-Christian public that they won't sell yard-sized religious-themed displays any more???
Does anyone know where I could find or order such items?
I agree 100% with comments made in other threads here, I would really like to see Christmas decorations in stores held back until after Thanksgiving. It's rather jarring to see displays go up right after Halloween.
We never used to decorate until Christmas eve when I was a kid....no, we didn't illuminate the tree with candles, but my grandmother had REAL bubble lights and spun-glass angel hair on her tree.
This is my very favorite holiday and I'm sad to see it become so commercialized.
Peace On Earth and Good Will Towards All!!!
