Ansata, Babson, Bentwood, Gleannloch, Pritzlaff, Serenity… For anyone
connected even remotely with the Egyptian Arabian horse, these names are
legendary. Still for many, they and the horses with which they are
associated are known only in part.
· What were the significant breeding programs in the early 20^th Century?
· What were the early breeders seeking in the horses they imported?
· What were the significant traits of the key imported horses?
· How did the early breeding programs develop?
· What were their breeding philosophies?
· Did the breeding philosophies evolve over time?
· What impact have the breeding programs and philosophies of the
importer-breeders had on contemporary attitudes and practices in
Egyptian breeding?
Now, the Pyramid Society offers breeders and enthusiasts a unique
opportunity learn the answers to these and other questions about the
foundations of American breeding of Egyptian Arabian horses in the 20^th
Century.
*Foundations of Excellence: American Traditions in Egyptian Arabian
Breeding: 1900 – 1973*, a National Breeders Conference, provides a
thorough and in-depth overview of significant early breeders, the horses
they imported, foundation breeding philosophies and breeding programs –
and the significance of each in contemporary breeding of Egyptian
Arabian horses.
Barbara Griffith, Trustee Emeritus and Life Member of The Pyramid
Society, has opened the Imperial Egyptian Stud for this significant
educational event. For this the Society is grateful.
Speakers include historians Cynthia Culbertson and Joe Ferriss,
acclaimed breeder Judith Forbis, as well as Lisa McCracken Lacy from the
Bentwood tradition, and internationally known trainers Steve Diamond and
Eileen Verdieck, also a longtime friend of Richard Pritzlaff, will
address key questions of historical and practical importance to any who
care deeply for the Egyptian Arabian horse. The program is designed to
balance panel and lecture presentations with interactive
question-and-answer sessions to assure that attendees understand the
relevance of the foundation programs of Egyptian breeding for today’s
breeder. Majid Alsayegh, Kent Mayfield and Becky Rogers will be
moderating sessions over the weekend.
Following the close of the Conference on Sunday morning, a presentation
of Imperial-bred horses and a tour of the stud have been planned.
For the attendee, the National Breeders Conference is an unparalleled
opportunity for personal growth, development and networking. It is also
is an important step forward for The Pyramid Society as a major provider
of education for the Egyptian Arabian breeding community. Members have
long asked for a more expansive educational program that anchors
breeders in an historic tradition and provides direction for the future.
This Conference has been developed in response to that need and desire.
Every effort has been made to keep the Conference affordable.
Registration includes an informal opening reception, luncheon and a
buffet dinner, as well as a portfolio of learning materials and
reference materials. A variety of accommodations are available within
easy driving distance.
The Conference, sponsored by The Pyramid Society and planned by the
Society’s Education Committee, is scheduled for September 7-9, 2007 at
the Imperial Egyptian Stud, Parkton, MD. The event is open to members
and non-members alike. Advance registration is strongly recommended. For
