Hi y'all -- if anyone in the Alachua/High Springs area knows of pasture board/rough board or a decent pasture that the owners might be willing to rent/lease, please let me know.
I've had my stallion at the same place for 5 years...private 10-acre residence with a 5-acre pasture (water, shady trees, run-in stall, tack/feed and hay sheds). I'd like to move by September 1st, hopefully sooner. The horse is happy where he is, but I'm not. My landlady is bipolar and has had several manic episodes recently, been arrested twice in the past 6 weeks, and I've just had enough. She was just released again on Friday, and I don't even trust her to feed the horse while I'm out of town next week (a rare vacation with DH and no kids this time)...my friend who mows the pasture is going to keep an eye on things and feed Tempest from outside the fence. He really doesn't even need much grain right now, easy keeper on grass, but the landlady thinks horses don't need grass or hay, but rather grain/sweet feed/pellets should be sufficient...I'm afraid she'd overfeed him in her recent state of mind, so I'm not even leaving any feed in the tackroom. Before you think it's TMI, I could tell you a long, sad, scary story about the past six weeks (not to mention the past year!), but suffice it to say that enough is enough. Seems like everyone in town knew about it before I did! She doesn't really want me to leave, but it's affecting my personal life trying to deal with this, and that's going too far. I hate to move the horse, as it really is a nice setup for him, and I've dealt with quite a few of her previous psychotic episodes, but when the police call you and tell you not to go on the property for 72 hrs for your own safety (while they go in with a warrant), it kinda freaks ya' out, KWIM?
He's UTD and just got the negative Coggins in the mail today, so he's ready to move on short notice if necessary. I'm not in a rush, still need to borrow a trailer, and would prefer to move him once to a more-or-less permanent location, rather than a temporary option and shuffling him around again. Thanks for listening!
