My mother has 2 Arabian horses, ages 18 & 28 (yes, 28!).

The older one, *Queimada, is a Spanish Arabian imported mare, she is blind in one eye.

The other one, ET, is from SW Dawid Daughter (Dawid & Khemosabi daughter) and our Spanish Stallion *Ommar long-deceased - he died in my arms).

12 years ago, my mother suffered a stroke and we liquidated the 22 horses she had at that time. I took the stallion and the Spanish mare and she took her Khemosabi daughter and ET (the mare mentioned above). When her beloved Khemosabi daughter died, I brought the Spanish mare over to keep ET company. They have been there for many years now, enjoying their lives. I believe that at one time ET was broken to ride, but she was only ridden a short time and then kept as a pet.

On the 30th of June, my mother passed away after a sudden and unexpected hospitalization. These 2 mares are still at their place and my elderly father, who can not care for these animals on a long term basis, has asked me to try to locate a place where they could remain loved until the remainder of their natural lives.

I am presently in a rental situation and do not have horse property nor the ability to care for the animals she left behind.

I am looking for a loving place for these 2 gals. In time, we possibly would sign them over, but not initially. I owe it to my mother to do my best for these girls and to keep them safe. If for some reason there were foals, I'd be happy to sign the paperwork on them.

We are not interested in getting money, just loving FOR EVER homes.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

Irma Groot

Still waiting for that special person who would never be able to find or afford a quality horse like ET. Take a look at this picture. This horse is UNgroomed and the picture is NOT professional. Just a quickie candid shot. This horse is a top notch, beautiful, smart, charismatic, great pedigreed and sound horse. Her heart is true Arabian.

She has never had a mean hand or thought put to her.

The price is that you show us you can love her forever AND you do not separate her from *Queimada - who is old and blind, but gets along just fine. The 2 of them are used to each other. By the time *Queimada passes on, you and ET will have your hearts intertwined.

Make no mistake about it. We want JUST THE RIGHT home for her. We don't care if you breed her, show her, or just ride and love her (or even "nothing" her, like my mother has done all these years).

If you know a deserving person, please put them in touch with us.

Irma, my heart goes out to you. I'm sorry you are faced with this in a time of sorrow.

Do you think that the older mare would have a really hard time being transported? I'm thinking that folks might be hesitant to take her because of this, in addition to the fact that they'd have to put her down sooner rather than later. I know I'd be scared to put her in a trailer and haul her much more than a couple miles for fear of how hard it would be on her old bones. I do wish you luck in rehoming them. Nothing tears at my heart strings like a lovely white spanish-bred mare!

Hi.
She is old but by no means brittle. She is out in pasture (on a slope) every day. She gets sore once in a while and sometimes pulls a muscle (well, she's an old gal...... I sometimes pull a muscle and I'm sore all the time!).

Trips are always difficult for horses. When they're young, we trailered them regularly to keep them used to it. We really didn't think *Quemada would outlive my mother. She was old when I brought her over years ago from AZ to CA, so that ET would not be alone at my mom's place. She was tired, but she did fine.

I think if you go slow (50MPH) and take frequent breaks, horses do OK.

It's debatable whether it would be better for me to transport them (in a 2 horse or slant) or have an expert (big rig) do it. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

They have to go to new home(s). There is simply no choice.

What pretty girls! It's heartwarming to hear how loved they've been. It's also obvious they've been well cared for. I hope you're able to find a home for them soon. Would you mind if I cross-post? You might also try posting here: http://www.arabianhorserehomingresource.com/

Do you still need homes for them? We might be able to take one only. How is the younger one - can he be ridden? Does he need suppliments or anything? Let me know, thanks!

I have to speak up for the older gal, 28 and blind in one eye. She'll probably travel just fine for however long it take her to get to here new home. I picked up a 21 yo and a 28 yo and took them from OK to AZ and back again, all within about a 4 month span. They both travelled just fine, are both still healthy and happy (quite sassy actually) and the trips never even slowed them down. I also have a 1/2 blind horse who does just fine. Runs with the herd, easy to handle, very sensible horse. One eye works almsot as good as 2 for him.

I'm at my limit or I'd love to volunteer for these lovely ladies. I love old broodies or just plain old mares, especially Arabians. They have a lifetime of personality and love to give and are just wonderful to have around. My favorite ages are babies and oldsters. Course, I love the in between ages too....that's why I'm at my limit!!! wink.gif

Irma I wish you the best of homes for these 2 lovely ladies!
