I had the good fortune to meet Ludwik Maciag a number of times. He was most interesting, a wonderful artist and quite prolific. He was in the Polish Resistance in WWII and survived the Germans while fighting in the forests of Poland. He was very dynamic well into his 80's. Full of life and had a strong personality.

During one of my visits I purchased two of his paintings, and later acquired four more. He had a unique style and painted scenes of "old Poland", the farms, simple life, and of the horses of all breeds including Arabians. He painted some scenes of Polish history (knights and so forth, all with horses) for a set of postage stamps put out by the government. Sometimes these can be found for sale. They are quite nice and jewel like miniature paintings.

He will be missed by artists, art and horse lovers and the people who knew him.
Do widzenia, Pan Maciag.

My status

I thought I should share the story about Prof. Ludwik Maciąg's last painting. I've found it at Korfowe Website.

It was July 2007. Prof. Maciąg was seriously ill. In spite of the fact, he felt his weakness, he decided to spend some days in the countryside. One day his son came to pick Profesor home up. Instead of going home, Prof. Maciąg ordered to drive him down the meadow, couse he has something important to do. The day was cold and cloudy. Professor was sitting in the car. He took his old paint box out of the bag and started quickly to paint the meadow, couse the rain was coming. He was focused on his work, so the painting was finished as soon as it started to rain. Profesor closed the paint box and said with sorrow to his son: It's my last painting.
In a few days haymaking was finished and the hay was taken from the meadow. In a few weeks Prof. Maciąg passed away peacefully. Before his death, he managed to make Mrs. Joanna Grootings - the farm and the meadow's owner a present - Profesor's last picture.

Prof. Maciąg painting his last picture:
