Good news for all of those people who have let their CAHR Directors know that they wanted the News back. At a teleconference meeting on Wednesday, the Board voted to re-instate the magazine!

As those of you who are CAHR members know, the reason it was lost in the first place was due to lack of advertising. Everyone wanted the magazine, but we did not have the financial support to continue publication.

With the resounding response to our e-survey saying members would support the magazine through membership and advertising we have agreed to start it up again on a limited basis.

There will be an issue in January where everyone can advertise their stallions, futurity contenders, offspring for sale etc. Then there will be the July issue which will be promoted at Region 17 and 18 as well as the Canadian Nationals.

Both issues will have overrun copies that can be used at major equine events such as Scottsdale, Spruce Meadows in Alberta and the Royal in Ontario to name a few.

There will also be a newsletter published twice a year that will also have advertising space and will contain the necessary information membership needs to be aware of during the year.

We also hope that members will make better use of the website and visit it more often to keep apprised of new info or changes between publications as well as to get forms they require.

The Board of Directors is taking a leap of faith by re-instating the Canadian Arabian News. We certainly hope the membership will follow through on their promise to support the magazine if we brought it back.

There will be an introductory special for advertisers signing up for the first issue. I will post details on this thread and Nicole will post them on the CAHR website when they are available. We will start the promotion for the January issue at Canadian Nationals.

Marcia

Well I think people will want to get involved after not having the News for a year. I sure hope your reaction is an indicator and we get the support we need to keep it viable.

We need members from across the country to be a part of its success, to make it a truly Canadian magazine.

Excellant news Marcia for sure!! Congrats and thanks to all involved in getting it re-instated.

Is the magazine scheduled to be financed just through advertising or have some alternatives been added as well to ensure its long term success and keep the advertising affordable?

Hey Bob,

This one has to be funded by the advertisers to be successful. But it will also mean an increase in membership.

It was a very difficult decision to increase the fees, but the members wanted the magazine back and from the survey it was an overwhelming response of agreement to raise fees if it meant we got the News up and running again.

I am concerned that we may lose members because of the fee increase, but we already know we were going to lose others because we had dropped the magazine. So it was really a Catch 22 situation.

My hope is that people like the cross Canada communication and advertising tool more than they dislike the fee increase.

I really don't think you will see many drop their membership because of a fee increase to help fund the magazine unless it is a bigger increase that I heard today that it will be. Most members I know always looked forward to their magazine and were put out when it was cancelled and i think will be very pleased when it returns. I think once the results come in when the new year comes it will be a totally positive outlook. If not, could not some alternative fund raising be attempted as well? Raffle or auction are the first ones that come to mind.

What great news! I've really missed the magazine and am very glad to hear it's coming back. Will have to think about putting an ad together... not much to advertise for sale/at stud right now but should have some by this time next year, and I'd really like to support the magazine on its comeback.

Looking forward to hearing about the rates/specials.

Bob,

At this time our efforts for funding are directed at supporting the futurities and the two Canadian Breeders Championships as well as the 50th Anniversary celebrations for 2008. Also, we have sponsored the National Endurance ride as we want to be able to provide more support to those utilizing Arabians outside the show ring.

I have asked the Eastern directors to find a person who can be a correspondent for Christi, supplying information about what is happening out East to the News so that those in the East will feel more a part of the magazine and the CAHR in general.

Iam happy that the magazine is back. It is MUCH needed i feel. We do need to get more people involved in arabians as well as those that have arabians get themselves "out there" and promoted.

I would be interested in advertising myself depending of course on the fees. You mention the membership fees will rise yet again. Will there also be a rise in registration fees or anything of that nature?

I agree we do need additional funding from feed stores, tack shops, other dealers etc. Doesnt necessarily have to JUST be arabian but should be horse related i think.

I look forward to hearing more about this and the fees that will be involved etc.

We have no plans to raise any other fees other than the membership fees.
