How about a thread on just having fun with our horses. What did you do with your horse today, just for fun?

Well, today I didn't do much with the horses. I'm hard at work on a grant for my job and have a deadline. And it rained. I'm not complaining. We desperately need the rain!

When I ride for pleasure, which is almost all my riding, and when I ride in distance competition, I much prefer English riding.

When I hear the word "English" I think of hunt seat or AP saddles and heading out along the trail or just dinking around.

I have a hard time wrapping my brain aroudn the definition of "English" in Arab showing, LOL.

When I ride (in my ol' Wintec 500 dressage saddle) it is purely for pleasure. I only ride in an English saddle with a French training snaffle. I've only shown Mercury once... in a small show at our barn against much more experienced horses. I'm far more into the pleasure of our relationship, on or off his back than prizes. I only showed that once as a bench mark to see how we were doing since I trained him and broke him myself and am not a trainer. (We scored in the mid 60s in Intro A&B (Dressage). I am so proud of us!

Any how, it seems that this thread was only for some type of show riding and I'd like to see it go to all kinds of riding whether or not there are prizes involved. (bareback adventures as well) LOL

I was riding in a beautiful Collegiate Convertable dressage saddle, but alas I had to sell that to bring my mare home LOL....

I have the horse, now I just walk around on her bareback from time to time till I make up my mind about a new saddle lol

I started riding again last year after 25years "out of saddle" due to the need to go to school, work and feed myself !! Now at 53, I have had horses again for 2 years. Believe it or not.. I ride my SE mare with an Aussie saddle just for fun. The exciting thing is that we will be training my soon to be 3 year old SE to ride (hopefully as a hunter) and that should be great fun.
