Mine: 40 miles one way. It sucks because after work, by the time I let the dogs out drive down there, it will be dark (especially when winter comes!) I feel horrible about doing that to the mutts too, as that means they were in the foyer hallway (older two) or in the crate (puppy) while I was at work, then out for a few mins to potty before I head to the barn. On top of that, work is 22 miles from home. I refuse to baord anywhere else. Nobody is as reasonable ($280 full care) or as caring for my horses as this lady. On top of that, she's a great friend and even when it rains I go down just to hang out with her.

I get out there twice a week now, but wanted to start going three times a week. 240 miles a week in gas!!! I hate gas prices. That's the number one reason I'm not out there more. I'm buying my own place at the end of next year/beginning of 2009 and CAN NOT WAIT.

So for the boarders: how far away are you from your ponies?

When I boarded I was lucky and had mine just a 10 minute walk away, still had to go down twice a day as it was totally DIY.

40 miles! What a trek! You will so appreciate having them on the doorstep when you get your own place, you'll never get anything done because you'll spend hours watching them, but still. Good Luck with your househunting when it happens.

I have two Boarders here, one is lovely, she lives 20 miles away, and pops in most days to see her horse, a geriatric, but at least she comes to see him. The other, well, the Boarder from ######. He lives 2 miles away, haven't seen him since May, when last I called about trimming he said "Oh do what you like, I've lost interest, I don't care" and slammed the phone down, anyone want a nice Quarab, I seem to have acquired one!

You're really racking up the miles aren't you! Lots of driving, but I know what you mean, when you find a great place its worth it. I absolutely LOVE where Stripes lives!!!! Heck, I want to live there too! And its reasonable for everything that they do. I'm driving 34 miles round trip, which isn't looking so bad now. wink.gif

I have mine at a DIY place too, but it is only about a 5 minute drive, can't walk there though. I do go before work and after work to feed and to check on them.

I can't wait to have our own place to have them at home. As soon as our house sells we hope to have a place. So
I know you are looking forward to not having that drive anymore!

So sad about the boarder losing interest!

I feel your pain!! Well I did for the last year, until last month when we moved closer to our horses. I was driving 50 miles one way every other day for a YEAR!!! Thankfully I am now only a 10 minute drive away....I too have two dogs and it was tough!!! We are looking and hope to have a nice small farm to call our own in the next year or so.

Well my guy USED to be 5 mins one way, but then I moved to the city. And CAN.NOT.WAIT. to move out of it. My commute to work will be 45 mins to an hour, but I DONT CARE. It will be traffic mainly, not the mileage.

I'm glad someone else is in the same boat! If I could take them to the barn with me, I would! I walk them tons when I come home though, and wish they just wouldn't get into everything and I'd let them stay out more!

When I lived on So. Cal it was a 45 min drive to the barn. And that was with traffic moving reasonably well.

When we moved to WI they were still 20 min. Same in MN.

But now, they are just outside my back door. It's great!!

When I went to college I was blessed enough to keep the horses as my folk's place. There where other horses there that were owned by some of the kids in the neighborhood. They took care of my horses for me (I still paid for all food/vet/farrier). Persy and Bumper still had kids lovin'on them. Now the girls are just right outside my door.
