These are from today . The pictures are of a small band of Mustangs who live nearby . I was riding Pete who's also in my avatar and Bart the trail dog was with us .

Small band we call the black band - they have only 1 foal this year

Pete is looking at them and tried talking to them but they won't answer

Off they go

This is a small bachelor group of 2 black colts/stallions they live about a mile away from the other small group .

Great photos Val

I don't see any shade trees out there, you would think that these black horses would get pretty hot without shade.

Karen

Up behind them on the slopes are Juniper trees , those mts. are called the Dogskins . They spend some time in the winter up there but most of the time they are out in the open . Down in the big flat there are stock tanks at the springs for cattle and the horses and antelope are always out in the open near them . There are mule deer up in the junipers, I never see them out in the open .

It just must be so great to be able to go out there and ride! We have our property and the gravel/dirt roads or we can haul up to the river trails.

Here are a few more mustang pictures . These were taken on Sunday 8-27 in the Flowery Range about 10 miles north of Virginia City NV. I was on my bicycle and was able to get off and walk up to this group . This area is very rocky and there didn't seem to be as much forage .

This group was strange because there was a stallion , the bright bay and another male who is in the middle . I wasn't able to get close enough to see if he was a stallion also or if he might be a gelding who had somehow ended up with the group .

The stallion

The mares and the foal

The stallion and the other male

The mares and foal again

Oh, CL, those are fabulous. How lucky are you to be able to ride with the mustangs! Makes my little 14 acres seem like a play pen!

Chris

This is a great place . We bought out here on the edge of the world just because of the endless trail riding . We lived in N.E. Washington where all the land was fenced and we would have to trailer to the State park or to Idaho to ride . I can ride out my front gate and be on BLM Land within a 1/4 mile . Most of Nevada is open land and you can ride forever .

Next week I'm going to ride the Flume trail but on my bicycle and part of the Tahoe Rim trail . The Rim trail is open to horses but it's hard to ride on because of so many bikes smile.gif I'll get some pictures of the trail even though it will be from my bike .

Do you have some Kansas pictures ?

One of these days I am going to have to come over the hill and go riding with you, these pictures are just driving me crazy!
