Hi!
I saw an absolutely gorgeous colt today; well bred, fantastic conformation, sweet, etc. This colt has a little white behind his eye but not much. Does this reduce his value like conformation faults do? is it a big deal?

Interesting question. I've always thought it was personal preference as I've seen many with it. Anyone know for sure if it's a fault?

Excessive white sclera I believe IS considered a fault.

Anyone with a rule book that can help?

Hi,

A lot of times I have seen young horses with a little white in the eye that does fill in with the normal dark color as time goes on.

I don't think the white is a fault in breeding classes anyway.

Have read both sides of this, for me it doesn't bother me unless the eye itself is quite small as well. I really think it's a personal preference thing.

must be a fault since people have had plastic surgery done to die it.

my young mare has one eye like that i have wondered if it effects their vision somehow, some call it a 'human eye' her sire had it to and it seemed there were things they would react to seeing that other horses wouldn't. not anything that's a big issue.

Geeez, see where halter classes take us?

Appreciate each horse for what it is.

I do believe it's a western world type preference,Historical literature makes reference to piebald Arabians in the Desert. You don't ride the eyes! But I do prefer a full brown eye.

Our stallion sired a colt with one "human" eye - they call it human due to the white. His dam is a Paint mare with one blue eye, so I'm pretty sure that's where it came from. Human eyes are frowned on in the ring, yes - not a fault, but not a desirable trait either.
The rest is just up to preference. The colt is pictured in our gallery photos - I think he's pretty darn nice, human eye or not. He'll make his owners a lovely working western horse once he grows up.
