We are training our stallion for AI and our local vet is having trouble finding the necessary
containers for shipping the seman. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to get them?

Thanks,
Kelly

Hi Kelly

Are you looking for reusable ones or the throw away ones?

Editted to add: I think you can get either one here http://www.equitainer.com/

Good question, I was not aware there was a choice. Can you tell me what the pros and
cons of each are? Also what price differences is there? Is one type preferred over another?
The majority of clients will be located across Canada but have three orders for Australia for
the 2009 breeding season. We will be doing both cooled and frozen.

You will need the big blue Equitainers for shipping to the US or for any major distance. The smaller Equi-Shippers are fine for most destinations in Canada and the US provided they are on next day AM delivery.

The cost of the Equitainers is large and many farms require a return deposit on them to ensure that they get them back in good condition and a timely manner. The Equi-Shippers are reasonably priced that for a few added dollars to the collection fee they need not be returned - mind you they are only good for a dozen or so shipments.

Check out www.equinebreedingsupply.com/

Also if you are planning on shipping to Australia you will have to make sure that the stallion is innoculated, quarantined and collected in accordance to the Veterinarian Restrictions Chart (contact CFIA). You may also want to talk with Semex International about sending the semen over seas with one of their bovine semen or embryo shipments to reduce your costs and ease transportation requirements.
