My arab is registered CAHR and has a certificate of enrollment for the International Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes (AHA) with and type of entry as breeding.
They certificates are not in my name so I am looking to find out how to get them in my name if that is applicable and what this enrollment means. Thanks for your help and if I posted this in the wrong place just tell me where is should go because I am new at this and it is a bit confusing at first LOL!

Hi there!! Since the change in the registry just a few years ago, Sweepstakes certificates are no longer used! When you switch your Arabian over into your name on their papers, the Sweepstakes automatically gets changed to your name! Hope I answered your question. Thanks!

When you bought the mare, the owner should have filled out the transfer of ownership portion of the registration certificate. You'll have to send that in to the CAHR to change the mare's ownership and registration into your name. There will be a fee for transferring the ownership to you. They will send you out a new certificate of registration that shows you as the registered owner of the mare. The CAHR website is: http://www.cahr.ca/

I'm not sure what your question(s) are surrounding the breeders sweepstakes? If you go to the AHA website you'll find some info. about the program along with others that Shadow may be entered in: http://www.arabianhorses.org/activities/pmp/

You'll learn a fair bit by simply going to the various websites and browsing.

Yep I am waiting for her papers to come back in my name. The girl who sold her to me said something about, when the papers come back I send a copy of them and the sweepstakes certificate to the AHA and they send me new certificates. She wasn't sure of the whole process. The ones I have are still in the original breeders name. Maybe I will just call Rae-Dawn arabians and ask... I have never owned a registered horse before, I have always gotten auction specials LOL! You don't worry about papers etc then! I am new to the whole registered thing so please bear with my seemingly obvious questions biggrin.gif ! I don't have the patience to go through pages and pages of stuff, I find it easier to just ask someone and get the answer!

Post #2 is correct. The sweepstakes papers are no longer used. When you get the registration papers in your name, the sweepstakes is automatically transfered to you as well.

Oh heck, don't worry about it. The only "obvious" thing I see is that you are OBVIOUSLY interested enough to ask ... I see that as a GREAT thing. bigemo_harabe_net-117.gif Welcome to the wonderful world of registered horse ownership. bigemo_harabe_net-100.gif Stick around and I'm sure you will find as may opinions and answers to any one question as Canada has folks that say 'Hey' wink.gif

I hope you will find us as interesting as we all think we are little_devil_blinks.gif

Seriously now ... Someone much wiser than me once said, 'The only dumb questions are the questions left unasked.' (geez, did that just make me sound brilliant or what?) bigemo_harabe_net-134.gif This is a great group of people, and a very knowledgeable group too; there is usually someone around that can help you out, so ask away.

Being a Michigan Wolverine, living NORTH of Canada (well at least the city of Windsor across the river from Detroit) - I'm privy to the knowledge (tongue in cheek) that Canadians punctuate all statements with "Aye?"

As for the sweeps question, I'm fairly new too, spent a good deal of time on the Aha site reading, then benefitted from an explanation via a phone call.

Breeding entry = eligible for participation in sweeps classes; enrollment fee paid before birth, fee currently $400; offspring of sweeps nominated sire (for purebreds)

Original entry = eligible for participation in sweeps classes;
NOT an offspring of sweeps nominated sire; HUGE fee paid to enroll, circa $15,000, wow.

Nominated sire = allows foals born after nomination to be enrolled as breeding entries, foals born prior to sire nomination would have to pay original entry $$ fee $$; if stallion is already a breeding entry & thus a son of a nominated sire, one time fee of $1500 to join ranks of nominated sires; otherwise to nominate a stallion who's sire was not nominated, the fee is $3500

We just went thru the process of nominating our stallion Noble Afire MFA and 3 of his foals we are expecting this spring. Due to the fiscal incentives of showing breeding entry horses in sweeps classes (did you know your mare can earn $$ for doing well in sweeps classes, 2006 payout was $2.6 million I believe); it increases a stallion's marketability as a breeding stallion and increases the value of his nominated foals.
