I have heard, and correct me if I'm "off," that horses grow until 5 years or more. Is this true?

Also, when do you normally see growth spurts in a yearling?

So true..ROFL..

I believe they grow up in height mostly thru age 4 to possibly 5 yrs in some cases, then age 4 to 7, depending on the horse, they mostly grow outward, as in body maturity..They say they don't grow much in height after age 5 except for maybe a half an inch at the most, but there will always be the few exceptions in arabians because of the different traits..As they are going up in height they will look tall and linky, then they stop and the body catches up..If you do alot of conditioning work on them with a good feed regimate they will body out faster to keep a more even look..

I was thinking the same thing...

I have a 2 and half year old and she is going through crazy growth spurts right now. I swear I go to the farm one day and she is butt high, then the next she is level and then the third day her butt is up again. I am having a real problem keeping weight on her, compounded by the fact that she is outside growing up before we start her for the futurities and she thinks she needs to run everywhere.

I also had a mare who grew really nicely until she was 5 years old and then she went through a funny growth spurt stage for about 5 months.

I'm so glad you posted! My 3 year old gelding is also in a crazy growth spurt and we have the same problem with him gaining/keeping weight. He hadn't grown since I bought him as a yearling, and he's just shot up in the last couple months.

Thanks for the comments. I never figured growth spurts could be as "old" LOL as 3 or 5! Wow!

My Jasmine grew until she was almost 7, she topped out at her 15'2 right after her 7th birthday. They can grew for awhile
