We are very pleased to announce the lease of the beautiful straight Russian mare Amarretta (*Princip x Amarilla PR) from Sport Arabians, KY, and her arrival at Kakagi Arabians. Her sire line to Nabeg is one of our favourites and has also been one of our favourite crosses with *Nefison, who we hope to have her in foal to shortly! Her dam line has produced a number of wonderful Russian stallions for Morning Glory Arabians, Saioak Stud and others, including her full brother Aabsolut- who now stands at Singing Hearts Farm as *Princip's most well known and used North American son. Her granddam Antina was the dam of the beautiful *Mag son Immagin, tragically now deceased, as well as Antaares, a full brother to Amarretta's dam. Antina's dam Talina is the dam of Saioak Stud's Stacctabay, and gives Amarretta a second cross to Nabeg. Talina is out of Trapecia, dam of *Tamerlan, and shares the dam line through Trapecia/Taktika with our *Tamerlan daughter Tamerlynn. The Taktika dam line is commonly cited as the second most significant in Russian breeding and is often found in some of the top straight Russian athletes.



The 'middle' of Amarretta's pedigree is no less impressive- her maternal grandsire Maryk produced both Marykov+/ and Neposzar+ when bred to *Nefison's half-sister *Nanna, and is a full brother to the dam of Metropolis NA, who is currently in Poland and now beginning to make a mark in the Pride of Poland Auction with one of his daughters sold this year heading to Toskhara Arabians in Tx.

With the proven combinations of *Mag and Antina producing Immagin, Maryk and *Nanna (x Nefisa) producing Marykov+/ and Neposzar+, and a beautiful filly on the ground by *Nefison and out of the *Princip daughter Magnoliah, we are extremely excited to see what Amarretta and *Nefison give us in 2009!

It has been awhile since I posted an entry, but has been a very exciting past year so it's time for an update! We had a very successful breeding season in 2007 leading to 9 mares safely in foal to *Nefison! The last to be confirmed was another new addition to the broodmare band, the straight Russian Menes daughter Sentiment, who is on lease from Sport Arabians in KY. We have been dreaming of adding Menes blood to our breeding program for some time so were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to lease Sentiment! She arrived last August and is currently (as of today) our last mare to foal for the year.

August also brought a very informative (although brief!) trip to meet Jane Woodward of Top of the World Ranch in Colorado and some wonderful Russian horses, including the *Muscat son Akshyon, a very impressive straight Russian stallion who is looking fantastic for his age.

In the fall of 2007 our long search for a farm to house our growing breeding program finally came to an end and the work has been continuous ever since! We are hoping to have the entire ‘herd’ moved in by this fall. Also in October 2007 we enjoyed a trip to US Nationals and had the pleasure of meeting a son of the grand old broodmatron *Pokeyna, who became part of our lives in 2006, as well as seeing a half-brother to two horses we had just met in Colorado. Among many other Nationals highlights!

*Nefison’s 2008 foals began to arrive in March, and with 8 on the ground so far we are eagerly anticipating the final arrival out of Sentiment in September. This foal crop has once again exceeded our expectations, the results can be seen on our website or here on ABN in the Russian forums. In particular we’re thrilled to have our first filly out of NM Rostalgia as well as a very fancy filly out of our Russian related mare Karenina kgi (her daughter also being the first 2nd generation foal for our breeding program). In addition, we have another exciting stallion prospect out of DYN Amber Myst; his pedigree has all the components for a great breeding stallion and we can’t wait to watch him mature. Also a big congratulations to Bob Manelis and Henna Wheaton on their *Nefison foals this year!

Stay tuned for news of Sentiment’s foal as well as more arrivals of a different kind… we are expanding our broodmare band once again and will have two more wonderful straight Russian mares arriving in August!

April was an exciting month for Kakagi Arabians. We brought home our newest straight Russian *Muscat daughter, DYN Amber Myst (see the New *Muscat Daughter! thread) and welcomed another straight Russian *Nefison son, out of Caramea Stud's *Novator daughter Novaya (see him in the 2007 foals thread).

At this point we feel we have assembled a pretty impressive group of straight Russian mares for *Nefison, now it is time to concentrate on getting some foals on the ground while we can! The clock is ticking both for *Nefison and for some of these high quality older mares.

On a similar note, we were saddened to hear of the passing of the outstanding straight Russian stallion Nareyev. We tried to breed Rossi to Nareyev for a straight Russian foal not long after we purchased her, but were never able to get her (or Tamerlynn) in foal with shipped semen. The loss of Nareyev is another blow to the straight Russian breeding pool, not long after the loss of *Pattrone, *Mag, and the *Muscat son Krakow. We are pleased to already have 3 straight Russian *Nefison sons to choose from as future breeding stallions, but wish there were as many replacements for all of these old Russian boys who have been leaving us.

It really is the end of an era as the large group of Russian horses from the 80's become increasingly unavailable for breeding due to age. Here's hoping that the next generation will be able to fill their shoes!

Looks like we will be adding another straight Russian *Muscat daughter, with her dam line we just couldn't pass this one up. Stay tuned for details.

Last weekend we welcomed home our new straight Russian mare, OFW Mega (*Muscat x *Nega by Kilimandscharo), owned in partnership with Aurora Wind Arabians. Mega will be a valuable addition to our group of straight Russian mares and will be bred to *Nefison for a late 07 or early 08 foal. Aurora Wind Arabians owns a 7/8 sister who arrived almost a year ago, she is currently in foal to *Nefison and due early in the new year. Mega is also a full sister to Impulse Arabian's stallion Montrachet, who just passed away in 2006.

We're very excited to have this high quality mare here and are greatly anticipating the straight Russian foals she will produce for us, beginning with *Nefison's!
